A book that tells the story of institutions such as the Santa Casa da Misericórdia of Lagoa and Estômbar, Compromisso Marítimo de Ferragudo, Religious Confraternities of Lagoa, Estômbar, Porches and Ferragudo, and Social Assistance activities, some of which have already disappeared, such as the Wheel of exposed, Colleges or Houses for Tolerated Women, the Collection, the Association for the Protection of Poor Girls, the Colégio de São José and the Asylum of Lagoa.

The work also addresses institutions of a mutualist and relief nature, such as Montepio Artístico and the Associação de Socorros Mútuos Fraternidade Operária or associations and clubs of a cultural, recreational or even socio-professional nature, such as the Ateneu, the Club, the Agricultural Union, the Carvoeiro Casino and the Lagoense Artistic Society.

This is a comprehensive work covering the entire municipality of Lagoa, covering 500 years of the municipality's history, focusing its study mainly after the 16th century and until the 30s of the 20th century.
