The 1st volume of the Biblioteca Algarviana collection, is a facsimile edition of the original edition published in 1894 by the writer and politician Júlio Lourenço Pinto with the title “The Algarve: impressionist notes” is a text with some ethnographic predominance and an excellent source monograph. The Author performed administrative functions as Civil Governor of the Algarve, and was remembered for having prohibited the use of BIOCO in the Algarve. The considerations he made about this local item of clothing reveal his thinking, always attentive to the dangers that potentially threatened society.
“...a cloak, with a large head, heavy and so abundant in cloth, that it completely covers the body extensively and even to the feet, topped [...] by a black shawl, which, wrapping and covering the face and head, is wrapped in pointed shape", meaning that this "conical tube ends with a small hole, a single opening for breathing and visual rays"; thus, the body was “hermetically” imprisoned “in this fragment impenetrable to all curiosities.”
